Black Fathers in Memphis: Prioritizing Health to Support Our Children As a Black father in Memphis, I carry a deep responsibility to nurture, guide, and protect my children who are a young king like Noah and brilliant queen like Nia. But to do this effectively, I must prioritize my own health. A healthy father is a strong father. A strong father creates a strong family, and a strong family builds a thriving community. Like many of us, I grew up seeing men in my family push through life without prioritizing their well-being. But the reality has became very clear to me: high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and stress has taken too many of my friends (fathers) too soon.
